When do you jump in and help a chick hatch... chick ripped intestines and bowel out of body.

I did put him down..... I sent my daughter to take a shower... she is 10 yrs old... and I took him in the other bathroom and put him to sleep forever... then told her he went to chicken heaven where he will not hurt anymore...

She said yes that is good because now his stomach is back in his body...

Oh, sweet! Kids have a wonderful way of looking at things. So sorry this happened to you. Hope your next hatch is just wonderful.

I just had a hatch that had one chick that had a similar condition and yes it was definitely intestines as well as what looked to be a liver. There was also a deep yellowy brown liquid I believe was the yolk, it had ruptured and although the chick was strong enough to hatch naturally, it's crop was empty and it only survived about two hours. I'm not totally sure but I believe this is caused from the incubator getting a little to warm, not very much it could be as much as 103.2 for as little as a few hours one day of the incubation. As a result the chicks may hatch earlier than they should. More common in still air incubators as they can have hot spots. I've had healthy chicks hatch anywhere from late on day 20 to afternoon on day 22. I'm not sure if this helps but this is my experience.

thanks for the response. this chick was on time but the eggs were very very small for orpington eggs. I did get 7 orpington chicks alive and well though... I think it was a egg from a very young chicken.... it was a large chirpie and he busted out but probably had sac stuck to shell and he just ripped his insides out trying to get out...... and the others were tiny... although in just a day they have already gotten bigger....
I would prefer I think to just buy sexed chicks or juvinile pairs from now on rather than hatching eggs..

Although I have 3 acres in rural living surrounded by horses and other farm animals and farms. I have never owned farm animals... I just want some unique chickens but I do not want to have to hatch a bunch of roo's to place.

Chickens I have (my fave is the orpington and speckled sussex) sussex soooooo friendly and loving...

Lavender Orpingtons. chicks sent from breeder straight run.... kept 3 females.. (have 2 females 4 males left to place).
Chocolate 100 percent english chicks - 3 being sent from a breeder in 6 days.... cant wait cant wait.
Lavender Orpington 100 percent english 1 chick being sent with chocolates.... ( really can not wait)
Black Orpington cecile moore/korfus kluckers (hatched egg) 1 cutest thing ever and big....
Buff Orpington she is 4 months old now... she is the sweetest fattest chicken ever...
Speckled Sussex females 5 keeping 2 placing 3 (although I love all of these super loving chicks) chicks were ordered
golden comet females 4 (keeping 2 placing 2) Also very sweet and very pretty healthy looking birds 5.5 wks old now.
Pearl White Leghorns 5 (keeping 2 placing 3) very curious and friendly, always have to know what I am doing. 5.5 wks
Black Copper Marans 8 *hatched eggs from two breeders (one other breeders eggs were mostly clear) show line.
Blue Copper Marans 1 hatched egg (I love this chick)
Blue cuckoo marans 2 hatched egg .
Paint silkie
Buff silke both given to me for mothers day getting big... (my daughter talked dad to going to poultry farm) she actually is the one that wanted the silkies
g laced polish 5 buff laced polish 5 straight run golden polish and buff polish chicks sent ( 6 wks old) have 6 to place.
black white crested polish 1 hatched egg (cute as can be)
Blue white crested polish 2 hatched eggs (ditto)

Hatching today..... silkies.... two partridge, 1 paint so far......... (these were for my daughter, she is 10)

I would prefer to have spent a bit extra for exactly what I wanted to own rather than wait and see what comes out...

I will be placing alot of these extra chicks in good homes... I bought eggs with very nice lines and beautiful parents.

The only chickens I do still want to own maybe after I place all my extra chicks.... are Jubilee Orpingtons and Golden Laced Orpingtons...
Although I am fascinated with the white faced black spanish chickens..... I just think they are soooo cool looking.

My husband and daughter are super fascinated by the serama chicken... My daughter calls them the proud to be american chickens because of how the roosters stand like little soldiers.

OMG.... THE PARTRIDGE SILKIES HAVE TO BE THE CUTEST CHICKIES...... EVER...

THE LAST OF MY EGGS SUPPOSE TO HATCH TODAY.....
Did not mention my 75 percent english chicks as I did not want to jinx the hatch... set them with the silkies and the silkies have been chirping away and started hatching at 4 am on...... took out 4 clears of the english and heard no peeps.... so I was worried they were not going to hatch..... but I just checked on them and I have a large cracked window in one english orpington egg..... Yay.... aside from the one breeder resending marans that were all clear..... that is the last of my hatching bought eggs....

It was fun... but stressful at the same time....... next hatches will be my own for my eldest daughters kindergarten class.... :~)

I herd incubation is a lot of work. I only do chicks when my hen is broody. I'm obsessed enough, I could only image the weird thing I would do if they were in the house...lol

Sorry about that
