Ameraucana (or crosses of Ameraucanas) begin to lay. We have 6 pullets and am wondering when they might start laying. They are young yet, probably 9-10 weeks old, but am wondering when to expect it. Do they do certain behaviors or look a certain way when they are ready to lay?

The hens' combs start turning red, I'm fairly sure, when they are getting ready to start laying.

One of my EE just started laying and she was just shy of 4 months! (about 16 weeks). Her comb just started to get more red in the last 2 weeks or so. The combs on the others are just starting to develop, and I don't expect them to produce anytime soon. (hopefully not--I can hardly get the one egg out of their coop, and there is no room for a nesting box in that coop).
