Turn off your portable electronic devices.

So speaking of the news earlier... anyone see the thing on whats-his-face actor getting kicked off the plane?

I was really surprised to see the opinion poll on that (ok not always an accurate thing, BUT), that the results were 75% were for him getting the boot, and 25% actually thought they should have let him stay??!! I don't understand why anyone would think that is OK.

As a former flight attendant... I got sooo tired of having to treat people like 5 year olds... "Can we please turn off the electronic devices" "this is why" so on, and so forth.
YES.. we can see the little blue lights reflected on the ceiling

And THEN I actually had more than one person answer me... after I explained the safety hazard... "Well, I'm willing to take that risk". WELL there are more people on board than just YOU and you cannot make that decision for all of them!

It still surprises me when I hear people say things blaming the flight attendants and pilots and TSA officers for a situation. You know there are rules binding them, right? With mroe than loosing a job at stake.. more like serious legal reprecussions.

FAA rules happen to state very clearly that NO commercial flight is legally allowed to take off with portable electronic devices on. Flight attendants are drilled to call the Captain in the case of a passenger refusing any direction, and then it's always the Captain, as Pilot in Command, that makes that decision to boot someone off. They are the ones who have to make that call.

Oooopsie... this might be more of a rant

I don't fly (fear of flying, I can swim like a fish but fly like a chicken) but, I'd vote for anything that would keep a plane from crashing.

I would just think it equates to that warning label on a product... "If you ingest this, call a poison control center immediately" (or something like that)... and what do you know, but some adult somewhere decides to ingest it just because they were wondering what would happen. Nevermind the trained advice of the people whos sole purpose there is to keep you safe

No... my little regional airline went bust 2 years ago.. LOL

Unfortunately, the only opportunities available after that were from the biggies, Southwest and the sort... and they only were hiring those with years of experience... and working for a little regional didn't count ... Hmmpf!

But it would be hard to keep up with my animals with that much travel.. impossible actually. So it's just as well

They should get a $500 fine every time they get caught. No second chance. That would lessen the problem except maybe for first class people who can afford that fine!

In this particular case, what we are dealing with is Alec Baldwin. Even though he is a good actor, and has done some funny stuff on SNL, he is a rich, high minded jerk, who thinks his position in life entitles him to do things the little people can't get away with.

The airline should have permanently banned him from any of their flights, just to show him who has the power.

I'll guarantee you that an ordinary citizen would have ended up in jail, with thousands of dollars worth of fines.

I was wondering if this was just a publicity stunt for Alec to maintain his "bad boy" status.

I used to fly quite often with my previous job and I know why Alec supposedly apologized to his fellow passengers.

Once a plane gets delayed (this time, in order to kick the jerk off the plane), it sets off a whole series of delays. A new ground crew has to come and push back the plane, a new slot for take off has to be scheduled, etc. I know that many of his fellow passengers missed connecting flights but go ahead and play your game Alec and then stomp into the bathroom and have a fit.

understand all the safety issues... and think it's find and dandy that he got tossed off.... BUT, thought it was funny that he has a commercial out where he is sitting in a cockpit and tells an alarmed looking pilot "It's ok, I played a pilot once".
