NEVER!!! I dove 41/2 hours round trip to some remote farm that cost me 5 times as much in gas than the chicken. Who by the way was supose to be a proclian (sp?) D'Uccle hen who in fact was a white with gold splashes on her. Needless to say Minnie Pearl is the sweetest. My friends and family have threatened to get a map and put red pins on it to mark how I have gone all over to get my babies. Hence my name Bird Collector given by those people.

I did the exact same thing. Bought everything that struck my fancy and some that people just told me SHOULD strike my fancy. It was a wonderful but expensive learning experience. Now we've sold off all the stock and are going with purebred and show quality cochins as well as the various turkeys that I adore. Period. End of story. I cannot even be tempted to branch out again into any other breeds or any other critters.....well, until I saw that sussex the other day....and of course there's always that mini donkey dream.....

Nope. Not addicted. There are very rational reasons for my actions.

I bought 100 babies because they keep warm better in shipping when the box is full...

The extras are a Birthday gift for me dear ole mother....

DH didn't say "NO"....

The hen house has room for more....

The more hens, the more eggs, the more egg money from Farmer's Market....

I like chicken...it tastes good.

I know what you mean. Besides chickens I also want to get rabbits, goats, a horse...

and I really REALLY want a Zorse. Yeah, that's a zebra horse mix. They actually breed them to sell on some ranch in Texas.

oh wait. I'm not an addict. I'm a social hatcher. I only hatch when I'm out with friends and I never hatch and drive.

It's not an addiction. I'm just hatching for fun. I can quit any time I want.

Sure is that what we call it now.. social hatching, lets all get together and fire up our bators and brood together!

So if you get Really good quality, is that $500.00 before or after taxes? Or does it depend on the fix, I mean the chicken? I really need a job of professional hatcher so I can hatch chicks and give them to other people..

I always watch the animal hoarder shows and start looking around the house counting my creatures...3 dogs, 2 cats, 8 chickens, 5 ducks...Then I look at my husband and he says "No, we're NOT hoarders." So, I go and get more.
