I desperately want to hear from the hatchery folks, because there is some point to what's being argued (ahem...discussed!).
If a hatchery had some ameraucanas that weren't standard colors, say 75 years ago, and they work in those lines without mixing in a bunch of other breeds (I'm NOT a breeder, don't even know if the scenario I'm painting is possible) and sell birds that are bearded, muffed, and generally fit the Ameraucana standard in all ways but color, why should those birds be discredited any more than a Polish or Cochin that doesn't fit one of the colors accepted as standard for its breed? Why should an Ameraucana 'reject' or an Araucana 'reject' be booted from its breed because it isn't perfect? We don't do that with other breeds.
My question is assuming they aren't producing these birds at the hatcheries by putting Ameraucana hens in with any old roo to get whatever 50/50 chicks- I can't see them doing that.
Does any of what I've said make sense? I'm confuzzling myself...
