I have a hen that is broody. I also have eggs starting to hatch and I'm wanting to put them with the hen. Is that safe to do, or do I have to keep them in a brooder for a while before putting them with her?

If that is indeed what you wish to do, then sooner rather than later would be better as the chicks need to imprint on the hen, not you! I have never done this but i have read here on BYC that it works sometimes, but not always. I'd suggest you look up the relevant thread topic for more information.

Good luck

Honestly, it depends on the hen, and how long she's been broody. Generally, broodies need to have been broody for a couple of weeks before they will 'adopt' chicks. And not all broodies make great moms.
You can try it, but be ready to take the chicks, and raise them yourself if she's not keeping them warm or if she attacks them.

Thank you! I went a head and put the 4 that have already hatched under her early this morning.....it seems like she is going to take to them quite well.
