When Manchurian quails start to lay eggs ?

I have pics up on my site: quail.thechickchart.com in the How to Sex section.

YUP! Just checked the pictures and mine look just like the female in the example

Well, I guess they are just too shy. When start to lay yours? Since you are a breeder you must have more experience with this type coturnix

Mine normally lay at 7.5 weeks... you can start em up by keeping a white light on them 24/7 or just extending the day period, and higher protein/calcium food. When they don't have supplemental light, they do take longer, at least in my experience.

Good luck!

Whiteconfections, went to your site to see your birds. Thanks for the beer sexing info.

Oh my, I thought beer sexing was culling and then cooking them in beer.

I tell you, you can learn something new here everyday.

Beer sexing is a term which I already told several people!

Really funny and true.

Btw one of my Manchurian start to lay eggs. What helped was more sunshine (I keep them outside) + I removed one from the roos. Now there are two cages with one roo in each and all girls had the option to choose which one is their leader.

I am sure this is weird way to do it, but strange enough now everyone is calm and seem happy (eggs doubled in each cage).

I am not sure if this is by accident but one of the males was chosen by the Manchurian girls and the other one was picked by the Tibetan girls. They all lived in the same cage about a month and something when I brought a new male. And this division was necessary. If you wonder how I decided that they have feelings - when I took out one of the males, he started to call. And some of the girls started to respond with noises. The others kept eating or having sand bath like nothing happens. Then I returned the male and took the other one out. Same thing happened but with the other females.

Interesting, huh?

Very interesting! I just threw my barn into turmoil by switching around some males... had to get rid of the Manch x Manch lethal gene, so there were some divorces and remarriages. None of the parties involved were very happy!

They really do think, you can tell they recogize each other somehow!
