When or should I switch feed

i was wondering some six week old Speckled Sussex. They have been on chick starter crumbles from day one. Do any of you switch to a grower feed are just stay with the starter. If you change at what age, if not how long do y’all keep them on the starter?

I'll let you in on a well kept secret. Chick starter and all flock feed such as Flock Raiser by Purina are nearly identical. For that reason, I never bother to buy chick starter. I just feed Flock Raiser from the very beginning.

Conversely, chick starter can be fed for as long as you wish. In fact, when the feed store has been out of Flock Raiser, I just buy a big bag of chick crumbles and feed it to the entire flock. They are that interchangeable.

I switch to a Grower /Finisher feed and feed that then their entire lives. I provide oyster shell in a separate bowl once laying eggs.

i feed mine starter crumbles while in brood box, when i move to coop they get all flock with shells free choice on the side, ill take the last of there food and mix in some all flock right before the move to use up the last of the feed and get them transitioned to a new feed. also better on an animals stomach to mix the feed on transition to another feed ( i do the same with dogs a such when changing feed)

To make it simple, feed starter until you run out, then feed grower until they're all laying.

Or make it super easy and feed an all-flock type feed and just stay with that for life.

As I prefer pelleted food I do make a transition once chicks are big enough to easily eat pellets.

I also feed Flock Raiser to everyone, all year.
Your available brands of feed may be different than mine, especially when you look at the mill dates on each bag of feed. Always buy fresh!
Right now you may have birds of all one age and sex, but in the future, you may have young, older, molting, and maybe roosters too. That's a good reason to feed an all-flock feed, with separate oyster shell.
