when should i change my chickens feed?

I have a chicken that is 21 weeks old. I've still been feeding it baby chick food and i just wanted to know when i should change its food to grown up food.

Welcome to BYC! It is best to change chickens feed from 14+ weeks.

Is the chicken a pullet or cockerel? At the age of 21 weeks, you are at the point of changing from a grower ration, but gender will play into what the next food should be.

Hello and Welcome To BYC! If it is a pullet and is not laying eggs yet, you can keep feeding it chick starter/grower until it lays eggs then switch her over to Layer food ... if it is a little rooster, you can feed him an All Ages or Flock Raiser type food from now on... you can also feed pullets / hens Flock Raiser type foods, just be sure to have oyster shell on the side for them so they have the calcium they need.

Hello, I am new to this site and hope I am doing this right? We just bought 4 hens from our local feed store. We were told to feed them laying hen pellet feed. I am concerned with how much to feed and mostly how often do I change out feed they don't eat. The woman who brought up the chickens said they should begin laying eggs in 3 weeks. I know they are adjusting still to new space so am not expecting eggs right away. Just want to make sure they stay healthy . Thank you in advance!!

I have a 25 lbs feeder. In other words it hold 25 lbs of feed. I fill it when it needs it about every two or three days, but I'm feeding 30 chickens with that. No need to change the feed out if you have a feeder it keeps flowing or shifting down ward and fresh stuff is always there. You can find all different sizes of feeders. I leave my feed in the coop 24/7 as well as water. If you use a rubber feeder then put enough n to feed then for about a day or two. Then dump and refill.
