I live in New York, on Long Island... So right now its pretty cold.
I am so new to this, and I don't know how far in advanced I am supposed to order my eggs.
I also don't have an incubator. Where can i get one for cheap?
Or is it better to buy them hatched through the mail or from a local breeder?
I refuse to buy from big businesses such as Agway or any other large production facilities.
UHH I NEED HELP!!

the best place to get eggs is right here on back yard chickens in the auctions. I dont order eggs till around may myself.

Yes if you want to incubate, there are several great people on here with different breeds to pick from. You just have to remember it's always a gamble with shipped eggs if they will hatch or not. And you don't want to order them until you have a incubator and have it all set up and the temp is steady for a few days. If you just want chicks and don't wanna mess with incubating (which is totally addicting btw, lol) I would try to find a local breeder. I don't like having chicks shipped, but thats just my opinion. Good luck!

I wouldn't order eggs until my incubator was set up and functioning perfectly.

The exception would be if I wanted something really special. I'd make arrangements now with the breeder to be on the waiting list for spring.
