When should I put a safety hole in a call duck egg?

So, update, first duckling I opened up the air sac more, went absolutely perfectly and exactly how I wanted it to go. Only thing im concerned about, is it stopped moving after a little while, I think it is resting at least I hope. But I didnt do TOO much. I am a little nervous even though it went the way I wanted it to. I am worried I got too much moisture arounds its head but other than that I think I did everything perfectly. It was exactly how you described it and I am anxious to help the other ducklings.

If you have to assist you will be able to tell when it starts to dry out and need moisted again. It will look like paper when you first open it when you get it wet with that Vaseline it will turn kind of clear.

I actually don't think I would recommend you even trying to use any water since you are new at this. I had a disaster once where I dripped a drop off the cotton swab and it went right on the ducklings nostril and I'm pretty sure I drowned the poor thing.
I used water and Vaseline. I didn't use much water, its just the cotton swab I was using the cotton was not the best, so I used the water and then dried it off to get it to not make the cotton move and start pulling when i get the vaseline on the end of it

Nares are what the nostrils are called, yes.
By the way, update and the first duckling is doing AMAZING, I started off with the white call duck egg (they are dif colors) and it is doing absolutely amazing and the assist went perfectly for what I have done so far, wich is widening the hole and applying moisture. Its ok if you dont respond because of course you have to go to sleep and others. He/she is doing amazing.

Another update, so I started making the hole wider in all of the eggs. One egg I opened and I don't think it was ready. I am nervous because I think it needed a little longer. It hadn't properly internally pipped. I am a bit upset with myself for not realizing that, but ive got myself into situation, so whatever I can do to help it I will. I put moister on the membrane and it broke through when I put it in the incubator a little while later but it kinda had already broken a little. Another egg I believe has feet over the head or its wing or I am not exactly sure, its not super bad. The issue with that egg is there is a pretty big vein where it internally pipped, it hasn't broken the vain but its in the middle of the rip it made in the membrane, I am scared of breaking the vein and I hope that it will start absorbing the blood, and it wont be in the way, or it will just break or something. The other 2 eggs are doing just wonderful and are doing amazing.

Feet over head is normal.

It sounds like you're having a bit of trouble being patient, and are moving too fast. I know it can be hard to wait, but it is so very important for a successful hatch that you don't open them too quickly.

How many eggs do you have?

Nope that's fine...we like to know what's goin on so we can help better. 😉
Plus, this is your thread, post away. I like to post stuff in my own thread when I'm hatching that way I can look back and have a record of what time I done what. Anyone that doesn't like it can move on and get over it. 🤪

I have 4 eggs in lockdown right now, but I have other eggs in a different incubator that are not in lockdown. I do agree about the part going too quickly, I will try to slow down.
