When should they start laying?

Ok, so we’ve had our chickens since Oct and they were supposedly 4-5 months old at that point. We still have not seen any eggs. Not really sure how I’ll know when they’re ready to start laying or if it’s even the right time. Any advice?

Their combs and wattles are looking very red
Meaning they’ll begin to lay very soon.

I thought I read that somewhere. I went ahead and threw a couple golf balls in the nesting box when I cleaned the coop today.
