Hi Duckles
You seemto bedoing well in assisting this baby. When it kicks free from the shell make sure it sit on clean towels and the navel will soon seal and dry. Usually I spray an open naval with a dry iodine powder. This can be bought at a Pharmacy and comes in a small aerosol can. Simply hold the gosling and a quick spurt of iodine powder at the navel. As the powder comes out cold it makes blood vessels receed and drys the area preventing navel infection.
When the gosling internally pips it is normal to only see the beak that has pierced the membrane. In this way the moisture is preserved around the chick and the yolk sac. The membrane has simply become dry over the neck and head which prevents them from freely rotating.
Good luck and look forward to hearing some good news about your new gosling
