When to candle Coturnix eggs...?

At what day can you candle Coturnix eggs? I know with chicks we usually start at day #8, but since Coturnix hatch faster, I wasn't sure when to start candling. I'm on day #4 right now...

I tried to candle my coturnix eggs (I'm onto day 7 now) but it's really hard to see anything because of all the splotches on the eggs so I gave up and will just wait till they hatch - at the same time keeping a nose out on smells from eggs that are bad.
