I lost my Golden Lace Wyandotte today. Only 2 weeks old. She was fine when I got her last weekend, but became weak and quiet. I started vitamins 2 days ago and found her this morning lying by herself. I watched one of the other peeps step near her and she didn't move, but chirped. Then it stepped on her and she didn't move. I lifted her out and she was very, very weak. I tried to force feed her but it was too late. Nothing was going down. I lay her down in a bed of shavings and kept her warm. Her breathing was very shallow. You are blessed to not have been there when yours died. After I lay her down I went in the other room and I heard this very loud chirp, the rest of the chicks stood at attention. One more loud chirp followed by a few soft dwindling peeps. It was absolutely heartbreaking. My son and I made her a little box and buried her out back. I don't know what was wrong with her, or my Black Jersey Giant. Take a look at my post on her and if you have ANY ideas as to "why" she has this swelling on her underside please, please, please reply. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=6492008#p6492008
I could never cull. These are our pets and we will just keep care of them until nature takes its course. I know people say, "Never say never," but I personally could never do it.

I am soooo extremely sorry for your loss as well!! Ty so much for your post. I am reading the thread you posted now. I hope someone with more knowledge and experience can help you find the answers.
Thank you so much. Unfortunately I lost my BJG today. She was fine when my husband checked them this AM, about an hour later I checked them and she was gone. I also found out, from the breeder, that these two (GLW, BJG) came from hatcheries, but my Americauna, Barred Rock, and Light Brahma were hatched by him. My Partridge Rock came from a hatchery also, but she is thriving and very robust. In fact, she is my biggest, about 2 weeks older than the others same age as the BR but a little bigger. I guess she had a growth spurt and the BR will catch up to her. We will get replacements for the GLW and BJG this weekend. At least they will be 2 weeks older, so they might be healthier. We shall see.
