When to get rid of a dog? Part 1: THE JUNGLE FOWL INCIDENT

When getting a rescue I always socialize them initially by leashing them to my waist for the first three weeks. It is a bit inconvenient but in the end we are bonded and no one can believe that is the same nutty shelter dog. I've never had lingering behavioral problems after that. No potty in the house. No bolting. Keep in mind I have not done this with my chickens so not sure how effective for chickens specifically.

I have worked with dogs my whole life from extremely aggressive dogs all the way to dogs that peed when you got close. 99% of dogs can be trained. This is why hunters first allowed these wild dogs into their lives. The dogs can provide any kind of demeanor you need. You want a guard dog, they can do that. You want a dog to herd sheep? They can do that too. Dogs are adaptable but YOU have to be willing to put in a lot of hours on training. Consult a knowledgable professional in your area and you can turn this dog into the dog you want. I work with guide dogs and trust me, after seeing a dog learn a hundred commands, stop a person before they are hit by a car, find a door, an elevator AND completely ignore birds, dogs, kids screaming and cooing at them and calmly walking by, I realize dogs can do it all!

Tethering is a widely acceptable and very good tactic. We do this exact same thing with our guide dog puppies and they bond fast. This also helps with immediate potty training and makes me, the person, notice chewing or bad behavior immediately so it can be corrected. You are absolutely right!
