when to handle baby chicks?

mommy3--
Waiting is so hard when everyone is excited to see the hatchhlings. THey arrive when they are ready. Some pip and zip in a couple hours; others take more than a day. Teaches patience. LOL

My kids love the birds; there is often one in the house being toted around. THey love one of the roosters and a EE in particular. ANd just about everyone has a name! My boys have been learning how to take care of them, too. Enjoy!

You can do another batch of eggs. Just plan on having the two groups separated until the youngest are 4 months. If you free range, they can be put together sooner; do a search and you will read loads on putting two groups to gether.

If you can get the next batch incubating asap and keep the range in ages donwnto 3 weeks you can put them together sooner. Obviously the just born need protection and a very large brooder space allows them to get together sooner. Sometimes as soon as the last batch is born. Watch and be ready to protect the new ones.
