When to start chick grit?

Hi, Our chicks are not quite a week old. When should I start giving them some chick grit -- and should I put it in a small dish in the brooder or mix it in with their feed. Thanks!

only when you are feeding them anything other than the chick starter. i put it in a small dish on the side
