When to start eating your pullets's eggs

My 6 pullets just started laying eggs. I know when they first lay eggs they are still figuring out the process. When do they really start to taste good?

You can eat them any time! The first ones can be really small, some might not even have a yolk, but they're still totally edible.... and totally yum

Sometimes the first one ms will taste the best (with my experience) but others have said the first taste nasty. It’s safe to eat the first eggs though

Not quite correct. When they first start to lay some are still figuring out the process. That might be where or when to lay or how to put the egg together. That's why it is possible to get some weird eggs or weird happenings when they start. It is a complicated process. To me the surprising thing is that the majority seem to get it right from the start.

Your question is not about when are they safe to eat. As far as I'm concerned they are as safe as any other of our chicken's eggs. Your question is about taste. Some people claim to be able to taste a huge difference in our eggs versus the store eggs. I'm not going to dispute them. Some people have much more delicate tastes than others. I'm kind of a klutz at that but I know people with highly refined abilities in that area.

What the chickens eat will affect how the eggs taste. Often these differences are very subtle. If you are feeding them like the commercial operations feed them don't expect a difference in tastes. If you are feeding them kitchen scraps, stuff from the garden, or they are foraging for various plants or creepy crawlies you can get a difference. It's not how much is in one bite, it's how much do they eat over the entire day. We suggest that treats be limited to about 10% of their daily diet so they maintain a balanced diet. With limited amounts the effect is not going to be that much.

It's also about how strong a flavor of what they eat. If you feed them some strong smelly fish there is a better chance that will flavor the eggs than something pretty tasteless. That may not be a flavor you like but it could be pretty noticeable. That may be why some people say some eggs don't taste good, the chickens got into something that strongly flavored the eggs. Growing up we could tell when our milk cow ate some wild onions, they strongly flavored the milk. If that were your first taste of fresh whole milk you might think that fresh whole milk doesn't taste good.

Bottom line, when will the eggs start to taste good? When you think they do.
