our chicks are 10 days old- when can we give them the treats that I read about here? mealworms, grapes, pumpkin, etc... Thanks for the help!

We didn't give treats till ours were 5 weeks old. We don't give treats until they are in the "big girl coop" lol We do that at 4 to 5 weeks old. Others on here may dissagree, but it's worked fine for us so far. We figure if they're big enough to free range with the older hens, then they're old enough to get treats.

I gave my babies tiny meal worms at 1 month old. I didn't get them until they were one month, but the friend that I got them from started them on mealies too. Just think when they are with mamma in the wild, they would be eating small creatures and things also. This way they knew I wasn't a big scary monster, I brought the good stuff! When they were around 2 months old they "helped" us clean out the pumpkins for carving. That was so much fun. I would stay away from big chucks that they might swallow and choke on and definitely keep the starter down always. Good luck and enjoy your babies!

I don't feed treats here until chicks are at least 4 wks. old and then I only give hard boiled eggs and maybe a few mealworms.

Keep in mind that when you start feeding treats that you need to offer some small grit too.

Fresh young grass tips (free of pesticides and chemical fertilizers and so on) can be cut up tiny and given to chicks from day 1.

I don't consider this a treat. I consider it enzymes for a healthy digestive tract.

I just gave mine some ww bread scraps and grass clippings! they only ate a little bread....

I haven't had a chance to give my almost 2 weeks old anything else yet (other than their feed), eventhough I had asked for ideas on treats. However, one of the suggestions I did do. I put a little bit of their food in a small dish, added some warm water- and they go freakin NUTS! Its JUST their food, but wet, and warm. They really go crazy.
