Our girls are about 13 weeks old. First they were on medicated starter and are now on medicated grower / finisher. I want them to get onto organic feed -- is it a good time to make the switch, or should I keep them on medicated a bit longer? thanks!

I switched at 16-18 weeks and one of my girls started laying at 18 weeks. I don't think now would be a bad time if you are already running low.

I think they are far enough along to switch them. I would mix the feeds at first transitioning to all organic after a week or so. I just got my Country Organics soy free layer today and fed the girls some to see how they liked it. They loved it. They are 16 weeks so they can go on the layer now.

I was told after 6-8 weeks you can switch them off medicated because by that time they pretty much have the "stuff" they need from it...that's just what I was told. /shrug

I use non-medicated grower and starter. I've never used the medicated stuff and knock on wood, have never lost chicks to cocci. Clean waterers, feeders and litter are very important. Non-crowded and non stressed conditions, plenty of greens and fruits.
I've been reading a lot about adding probiotics, which I will probably start doing.
