I have 12 BCM. I split a order of 12 with my neighbor and I don't want to give her all roo's or all hens, how do I tell roos from hens. how old before I can tell and what do I look for red combs? Does anyone have pixs of young roos or young hens.
Thank you

our RIR's roo's had noticeablly larger & redder combs around 4 ~ 5 weeks of age.. also watch for leg thickness. Roo's have thicker legs~ hope this helps!

Seconday sex characteristics generally start showing up around 4 to 6 weeks. With a bunch of all one breed, you should start noticing the differences about then.

How about you get together and each pick, one at a time, until you each have 6. That way the mix, if it's uneven, won't be anyone's fault.
