When will my BA's (black austrolorps) start to lay?

They won't start to lay until around 18-23 weeks. All chickens are different though so there is not actual age they will most definitely start laying.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Aussies generally won't lay until they are exactly 6 months old or more. They mature later than a lot of breeds. But this gives them time to get their egg laying machines in gear and will have a lot less troubles with their first eggs unlike the earlier layers. When their combs, faces and wattles really start to redden and enlarge and the birds start squatting for you, those eggs should be coming down the pipes soon!!

Enjoy your Aussies....Wonderful breed!! Welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I've raised Australorps for years, and most of them started laying from 20-25 weeks; a few of them a little later than that. They are great layers though and when they do start laying you will get loads of large, brown eggs. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Australorps.
