when will my call duck lay eggs

My indian runner ducks have been laying for over 2 months. My call ducks have been laying for a month. I am getting so many that I have been eating them waiting for the ducks to start setting. I keep the eggs for 2 weeks before I eat them in case one of my calls become broody. Norman

Oh no, you are eating the call duck eggs.......lol My husband would kill me. I threatened to start eating his BLRW eggs. We have tons of chickens out there and I was buying eggs from the store to eat. He got me some Marans to lay eating eggs.....hehehe I really want a pony, wonder if I can bribe him?

:/im in a pickle... i am currently housing a trio of call ducks at a friends house and i want to start to collect eggs. im quite sure at least two of them are of laying age. do they only lay when they have a nest? All three are housed in a coop with some porcelain and old english chickens. are their eggs any different than chickens? Also, would chickens lay eggs in the bucket if i used that method? How do i breed in the winter if i dont give them access an open pool? (cant have it in the coop, otherwise the other birds can drownd. for family issues i cant keep them here... (possible can convince family to let me keep them for a month just for breeding reasons) best solution?

Im not very experienced Yet but I have 4 calls (2 girls) that are 8 months old..at 5 months one of my girls layed for about a month.. my other girl has NOT layed at all yet and I dont expect her to til spring... the one that did lay made herself a little nest in the grass in the corner of her pen, I then made a couple of nesting boxes and she did use one of them 98% of the time. Mating has dropped as far as I can tell. BUT I work and dont see them all day. so ??! but when I change their pond every other day , they dont get as friskie as they did in the summmer. Over to the right side is the nesting box I made for her... Calls only lay 60-75 days out of the year. Good Luck
DuckLuck //// Mrs Turbo. are a couple names off the top of my head that have calls in this forum. ... ?? !!

Hattiegun....I love your duck pen...

Our call ducks will lay anywhere.... if you have a house for them they might lay in it or they may lay in the corner of the pen. Call ducks are seasonal layers and tend to lay in the early spring as the days start getting longer. They do sometimes lay in the fall....I would say about 25% of our calls will lay in the fall without any artifical lights, but it is when our drakes are coming our of molt and they are not fertile. We never have fertile eggs in the fall.....we do not put lights on them because it will mess up their molting for our show schedules. If you do want them to lay and be fertile you need put a light on them but I wouldn't want call ducklings through winter.....some of the smaller call ducks struggle through winter even as adults.

I know this is an old thread. But trying to find plans for call ducks nesting boxes. I found this thread. But your picture is no longer here. I was wondering if you repost it for me. That would be great.

my call duck layed her 1st egg when she was almost 10 months old, she had a late start because i bought her from a person who lived out of town and she was a little shook up.
