When will my chickens lay eggs

Hi, I have 10 rir chickens raised them from day 1 and now 21 weeks and 3 days old. I feed them laying feed, veggies, and some scratch here and there.
I have a rir rooster a few months older. No eggs yet any idea on how big and red the combs and wallets must be and what else to look for? The wait is horrible. Thanks!
 
Hello :frow And Welcome To BYC! Are they being bred by the rooster? Anybody checking out the nesting boxes. They are old enough to start laying and with it being spring and the daylight hours getting longer hopefully they should start laying pretty soon for you. If you want to post pictures of the girls, people might be able to give you an idea of how long it may be.

Sorry not the best pictures but it should give you an idea I can get better one tomorrow. And the rooster is be bred. I've been checking the nest boxes everyday.
 
The seem to be reddened enough in the comb to be close to laying. Try putting some golf balls in the nest boxes, to give them an idea what goes there. Sometimes that works. Do they squat if you touch them on their backs? That's a sign they are ready to be bred.

If your winter has been as awful as ours, I can see why they wouldn't be laying. I think it won't be much longer because sun is stronger and you can tell spring is here. Just the snow and cold don't seem to know that.

Looks like they are getting close. Usually when they start squatting for you, the eggs are only days away! I know the waiting can kill you. BUT...once you find that first egg, the waiting was all worth it. How EGG-citing!!!

I would put some fake eggs in the nest boxes to tell the pullets where to lay their eggs. When they go looking for a place to lay, and they see where they think another bird has laid an egg, she thinks it is safe to lay hers there as well.

Day length and the age of your pullets are the greatest factors affecting egg production from your hens. They are almost mature, and the day length is increasing. Be patient - they will soon start laying.
