When will my chickens start laying?

I'm new to chickens and have just purchased six 8 day old Barred Rock chicks. I've raised Guineas and Turkeys, but never chickens. How old until they reach maturity and start laying? Thanks.

Usually they start laying between four and six months of age.

Thanks. Was just wondering what to expect. Should I be gathering eggs on a daily basis?

If you'd like I usually just grab them each day when I'm out doing chicken chores, but I've let them go for a couple days before with no ill effects.
