when will my coturnix quail start laying eggs

How can you tell how old they are? Someone is giving away a quail she knows nothing about. I wanted some for eggs. She said she's not laying yet, but I want to make sure it's because she's not ready yet not because she's too old and has stopped. Here is a picture of her.

A 8 week old coturnix looks exactly the same as one that will die soon. There is no way to tell the age of a healthy adult coturnix quail.

8weeks normally just had a girl lay hers today and shes 8wks in to this world lol

You also need to make sure that they get some real daylight during the day. They get vitamins from it like people do.

When you say real light, does indirect light work in addition to room lighting? I have my quail indoors in a spare room, bright windows but no direct sunlight into the room.

Would this be enough light to produce eggs? My hens are 6 weeks and have the best stress-free life ever, still no eggs.

My 2 pair just started laying. They will start when they start. I tried to coax them but no go. Little buggers aren't they. I use artificial lighting from 6am until 8pm with an automatic timer. I am using a Cree 5000K daylight Led 60 W Dimmable. They are laying so the light is doing what is suppose to do. They generate very little heat.
