When will my hens lay

We have recently bought our first chickens and are waiting impatiently for them to start laying. We have 4 hylines who are now 21 weeks old and showing no signs of laying at all vat the same we bought a 18 month old silkie X and she is laying well apart from a couple of weeks when she went broody. Are we just being too impatient?

! Great to have you aboard! Should be any time now...some chickens lay at 20 weeks but it could be a month or even six weeks later than that. Don't worry - you'll be eating eggs before too long!

The more impatient you are, the longer it will take

They lay when their bodies are ready and not a day before. Also be sure they start laying in the nests you provide, not out in the bushes or under the porch somewhere of their choosing.

Good news! A new egg in the nest box today. Slightly smaller than Mabel's (that's our silkie) but its a start at last. Really excited now.
