When will my hens start laying?

As i learned from experience sometimes instead of having them in a pen or run let them out in the yard and they actually mature a lot faster i have witnessed roosters 4months younger than.mine crowing and "stepping on" hens while mine wasn't even crowing yet so maybe giving the a limited amount of time in the yard maybe like 10 hours a day in the yard then put them back in the pen/run until the next day hope it helps and good luck with your chickens molt

I had 26 chicks that hatched July 1st. I gave away 4 naked necks and 2 Americauna's. The guy I gave them too told me yesterday that the ones I gave him are already laying colored eggs. Mine do not yet have bright red crops and have not laid any eggs. How come his are so far ahead of mine?

Thanks, I let them out everyday but only for 45 minutes while I stand guard so they don't eat and stomp on my wife's garden. I guess that's not enough to get eggs anytime soon so I'll just wait patiently.

i think they lay at about 4-8 months
