When will she lay?

Ok so i have a tom and a hen and starting yesterday my tom (Tom T.) has started to breed with my hen ( Henny). the woman i got her from said her sister and mother have already layed eggs and now have 7 chicks. i was wondering how soon after mating would she lay her eggs? any help is appreciated thanks.

I was hoping you got an answer. I was wondering the Same thing mine started yesterday as well. The lady I got my Tom from said her hens have been squatting for a couple weeks, but no eggs yet she also said it shouldn't be long though. I'm anxious for them to hatch some poults but live in mn. It's been unusually warm and snowless til last night we got about 10 inches so I'm guessing that will put a damper on eggs for awhile. Good luck!

I find it takes my heritage birds a year to lay eggs. If they were hatched in April - I get eggs the following April. Hatched in May - I got eggs in May. I believe it takes them this long to mature as I have culled birds for processing in December and found eggs sacks no where near development.
My turkeys have just started laying about 15 days ago. I have fertile eggs every other day or so and I have only seen my birds mating once! I must have very modest turkeys that like their privacy!!

Squatting is a sign your eggs aren't far behind! Her hormones are working so it won't be long.
Turkeys also lay eggs by the amount of day light available - you must be farther North than Kansas and the eart tilt hasn't let you get long enough day light hours yet - or your hens aren't mature enough. I have had chickens that were mating 2 months before I got eggs.

They should lay fertile eggs as long as the Tom is doing his thing and you collect the eggs. If you let her sit on them she will stop laying at about six eggs - if she is broody. If she is not broody she will keep laying in a pile of rotten eggs. - I had this happen my first year.
I am incubating turkey eggs this year as purchasing them is no longer cost efficient and I haven't come across very many broody turkey hens in my time! I have had a chicken hatch some once for me who wanted nothing more than to sit on some eggs after I took all of hers. There is a photo on my profile. Good luck!
