when will they lay?

My buff orpingtons are about 5 motnhs now. we livein califronia where there is no snow. we been having fine weather so when will they start laying? thanks

Are they getting around 14 hours of light? If so they should start anytime.

Got my buff orps first week of June and we started getting eggs mid Dec!!! They took a while to get started but they lay an egg a day now!

If you have a light in the coop that shines for 14 hours, they'll be laying any day now.

that shows a week by week play of BO's from 20 weeks until laying to show the progression of comb/wattle development. If you compare your BO's to those in this thread, it should give you an indication of how far out the eggs are. Both of mine laid their first egg at around 23-24 weeks of age.
