When you don't pray...

I really think you are misinterpreting the intent of the OP. I see nothing rude about her question. What she is asking is how to support someone who has had misfortune in a manner other than prayer.

I agree with Sourland.

I already said I had read it wrong and I already apologized and I already admitted how incredibly stupid I was. I was a little tired and distracted, I read it wrong.

I usually just say that they are in my thoughts. Or that i am thinking of them. Or that i am wishing them well.

I'm thinking that if you see it that way, there may be others that do too. It never even crossed my mind before.

I'm one of those.

I am happy to learn from my mistakes. It helps when someone points it out, because now I won't use that phrase anymore.

Just my $.02

I suppose one could call what I do "praying," although for me it's more of an "opening up" or "communion," and I don't pray FOR things, I pray ABOUT things. Every human being has needs; some of us get what we need and some of us don't, and I don't think any of us can really say we understand what makes the difference. I've known some really great people who were left wanting and some really nasty people who do without nothing. To me that says that God/the Supreme Being/ the Universe/the Whatever you refer to the higher power as is not in the business of giving material things. What s/he is in the business of is listening and counseling. When my soul is troubled I open myself to that counsel, and often times I find that what I thought I needed is irrelevant. Other times, I may still need, but I am comforted in the fact that need is a part of the human condition, just as birth and death are, and as long as I center on my humanity and my relationship with the higher power, I can endure anything. Just my 2 cents...
