Where are all the Happy California Girls??

As for my commute...1.5 hrs (one-way) in normal traffic, up to 2.5 hrs in rush hour and the rain we had a couple weeks ago...3 hrs and 45 minutes!!!

But, it's only for another year and it's worth it in the long run.

As for roos...we just ordered 51 chicks in a straight run. We'll be having plenty of roo dinners here. Have you thought about cooking the roo if you get one? I am an animal lover and would rather keep them all alive, but my neighbors wouldn't appreciate it. Anyway...fresh, home-raised meat sounds much healthier (and tastier) than the store meat!

It's my first flock, and I am completely unprepared for doing away with one of the birds. I know there will come a time when it's okay, but for now I am not sure I can go there.
I would like to raise meat birds at some point. I have heard that you can hire someone to come in and "rub out" the birds, but I am not sure how to find that person. I am a long time veggie gardener, and with the egg layers we are working closer to self sufficiency of a sort.
But we are in a residential neighborhood, and I too, want my neighbors to be happy with my chickens.

I lived in LA for about ten years, but I am a Bay Area girl at heart, so I moved to Pasadena/Altadena, and have been here for about 15 ears. It's okay and the best I can do until I can move home again.

I drive to No Cal all the time, and would happily drive a rooster to a deserving home, or even to Riverside or San Diego ! LOL

I'm in sunny San Diego. Most people would say the weather is great here, but I usually complain about not getting enough rain, and not getting any snow!
