Good morning. I need some insight from some chicken pros. My flock includes: 5 Golden comet hens age 1.5 years, 1 Americauna rooster age 4m, 3 Americauna hens age 5 months, and 7 new chickens of varying breeds. My Americaunas are just starting to lay, so their eggs are intermittent. But my Golden Comets have all but stopped! We've only gotten 1 egg per day for the last 2 days! They seem healthy. They eat Layena and have water with electrolytes for the summer. I give them fruit and vegetables scraps a few times a week. They have plenty of space and can go out into their run at any time. Am I doing something wrong? I need more eggs!!!

At 1 1/2 years of age, it may be that your GCs are preparing to go into their first big molt. Also, with the mention of the other birds in the group it would seem you likely have recently integrated the flock since the ages of your middle birds are about that at which you would typically introduce a new batch of birds to an adult flock - how long have they been living together and how does this drop in production correlate to the introduction of the younger birds?

Thanks for the replies! I've had the GCs since they were chicks. Got the Americauna hens in February. In May we lost one GC to a coyote, so we got the Americauna rooster in June. Then the newest chicks came 2 weeks ago. So yes there has been alot of change. I can see there may be a correlation. If this is the problem, is it something they'll get over? I'm hoping it's just the molt. We have the same amount of chickens as our next door neighbors they're all the same age, and they're still getting 5 eggs per day!
