I'm trying to get my goose to go broody because I'm hoping she will raise a gosling who I'm getting in may. I've been letting her keep her eggs to sit on and she had built up a nest of five eggs. The other day I went out to the coop and her previously five eggs nest was now a three egg nest. I found the other two eggs about 50 ft away from the coop. This was weird but I put the eggs back in the nest and forgot about the situation. Then a couple days latter I went out in the evening to lock them all in, and instead of five eggs she has none. What I'm thinking happened was my two bulldogs snuck into the coop and ate all five eggs. The problem is there was no reminance of yolk, shell or anything and these guys happen to be very messy eaters. I'm also not sure they would have know in the first place that if they cracked open the shell they would get an egg (not the brightest dogs).
Do you think maybe a squirrel or even chipmunk would take a goose egg? These eggs are pretty large, about twice the size of a chicken egg.
Or maybe do you think the goose rolled the eggs away?
Anyway, any ideas?

How long has she been sitting on them? They will roll out eggs sometimes (chickens at least, I don't have geese) that they know are bad, so those first two might have been her getting rid of them unless she's just started sitting in the last few days. With them all being gone with no trace I'd think maybe snake or rats or something like that. Did you check the dogs for traces of egg on their fur?

I am thinking it probably wasn't squirrels/chipmunks because they tend to leave egg shells around. They will generally hollow out the shell, eat the insides and leave behind an empty shell. Rats will take eggs away, but if you have rats big enough to roll away a goose egg I would be afraid for my life if I were you! Yikes! I am pretty sure your culprit is either your dogs or the goose herself. Dogs will chow down on every last piece of an egg if given enough time. Or the goose may simply have decided the eggs were no good and rolled them away from her nest.

Let us know when you figure out what is happening. Good luck.
