where are the wonderful st. louis area chicken people ????

I am in Valley Park, about 20 minutes West of the city. I am new to chickens too and loving it. We got day old chicks for my son for his birthday in June and now we are hooked! I would love to find out more about things going on in the poultry world a little closer to where we live. Anyone know of any shows or swaps?

I know there is a bird swap in Waterloo, IL (about 30 from STL) the first Sunday of every month (I am pretty sure that is correct, but you might want to double check)

I would love to get this thread more active so we could meet up and do stuff like that!

I too just found this thread. We are renovating an old farm house and setting up our mini farm just outside of Edwardsville, IL. I am planning to have a "farm day" in the spring and will have chicks available there as well. This BYC is a great site to share ideas!

I am in Bond County, between Greenville and Vandalia. I don't have chickens yet, but working on it. I sell Real Estate and all it would take is a couple good sales and I would be able to get someone to put up the A-frame type I want . . .have Alpacas, finches, parakeets, doves, cockatiels and ferret, plus 5 dogs and hope to add a couple little goats and would not be opposed to mini horses, just 2, for the grand kids to play with. Have to be able to feed these critters though, so have to go slow!! Hay was horrible this year, and having to pay $7 a bale for it, so have to watch my pennies.

Hey all. I know it's goofy but I made a video of my chickens for fun. Thought it would be appropriate to share it here.

I just wanted to introduce myself. I live in South St.Louis in the Lemay neighborhood and I'm a new chicken owner. Right now we have 2 Light Brahmas, 2 Buff Orpingtons and 1 Rhode Island Red. It's nice to see a St.Louis thread on BYC. :)

Do any of you plan on hatching eggs this Spring? I never have and wondering the best way to do it. I don't have an incubator. I have a hen that seems to be starting to get broody so I wonder if I should wait for it to get a little warmer and then keep her eggs in the coop? Anyone let their chickens hatch their own kids? I don't care much about the success rate although would of course take extra precautions once they hatch. I think it would be neat to see her do it herself.
