where are your geese at night

When my ducks and geese were really little I put them outside during the day and brought them in at night. Then I transitioned them to their temporary shelter and pen. Every night I shut them in. Only once in the last 4 months have I had to work to get them in. Usually when it gets late they see me coming and start heading in.

Hi everyone- thread is old but it still shows up in searches. I have two geese. My African Goose grew up with ducks. The flock needed a long extended baby gate to help corral for a week. After the week they would go into their own coop (I have 2) with me saying “bedtime”. I got a companion for the African Goose, an Embden, and he followed everyone else. Bonus: feed them once a day at night. They are awake anyways and helps with drawing them to one location. My geese chatter all night.

Hi all, I've been lurking. I seem to come on every several months these days. LOL the first person I look up is Miss Lydia. She's been such a great help to me over the years of goose love.
My geese are the same way. I say "time to go night night" and point from my front door. They look, take a few moments to think about it and then run/fly to the pen. That is, until...........mating season! What fun! NOT in this crazy Winter weather this year.

I sexed my goslings only to find now I have too many ganders. It seems they all get along when out of the pen (I separate them as of this past week) with the exception of one..nothing like grabbing two long necks determined to hang onto the poor guys wing. I'm looking to rehome him. He's a gorgeous African and won't be a year old until May. The guys are mating even tho not a year old yet.......

For now I'll keep separating and herding. I'll also keep hoping breeding season doesn't last long.........ROFL!!!

I bought a Shepard s crook at Premier one. Mostly because I thought it looked cool. But the geese seemed to know what it was and waddled any way I wanted when carrying it.

I made one out of soft plastic and to no avail lol. I just hope mating season is really short this year. The makeshift shelters I have for them (4 separate pens) ..........I have to escort some and pick up others to put them in. They are sooooooooooooooooo fickle!!! All but two of them have fallen in love with a different partner several times this past week..........

Mealworms. Priceless. I now have two going on their own into their temporary pen with no ushering, just standing there waiting with a cup of those crispy critters. All but two have calmed down as they are separated and cooped up for the evenings. Hormones! smh

Our geese are on the big pond and I guess they hang out on the island at night. I have 13 Sebbies and 5 Chinese along with Calls and Pekins out there and lots of mallards and nothing seems to bother them.

Now my free range roosters have started vanishing but we never find anything.
Our 10 acre farm is surrounded by houses now so I don't worry about many preditors unless they are from the sky

There are many predators roaming around suburbia at night. Coyote, Fox, raccoon etc... will all be looking for a easy meal between homes.

I’d be happy to adopt your young African goose. We live on a 55 acre lake in rural Georgia.
