Where can I buy a mix-pack of hatching eggs?

I am looking to purchase a dozen hatching eggs. Everywhere I look online requires me to buy a random assortment of eggs or at least twelve of each breed. However, I want to choose my specific breeds.

For example ... I want four Copper Marans, four Olive Eggers, and four Brown Leghorns.

Is there anywhere that will allow me to hand pick my own dozen eggs?

Or does anyone know of any chicken egg swaps in the Western Mass area that will allow me to do this?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We are so excited to hatch our first round of chicks in the next few weeks! :jumpy:wee:jumpy

When ordering hatching eggs and having them shipped, be sure to keep in mind that shipping does a number on the eggs. You are lucky if you get half of them to hatch.

I'm not sure I know of any hatchery that lets you pick eggs in specific quantities to fill orders. And even if you did go through a hatchery, you'd possibly be paying more than a breeder would charge and getting stock that's worse quality.

If you tried to find a breeder instead, you could probably ask them to sell you just the amount of eggs you want, since breeders are generally more flexible on that. You may have an easy time finding someone who does both marans and olive eggers though, since marans are one of the breeds most often used when crossing for olive eggers. But finding a breeder that does all three is probably not likely. You are probably better ordering eggs of the different breeds in separate transactions, since that would make it much easier.

I'd try asking on your state thread here on BYC, since if you can avoid having eggs shipped to you, then they'll do much better and more will hatch.

And if you do buy shipped eggs and you actually want, say, four marans chicks, order at least eight eggs. If half hatch you'll get what you wanted, and if more than you want to keep hatch, you can sell the extras.

If you call up a hatchery and ask nicely, you may have that luxury.
But by far if you want quality over quantity, separate transactions are the way to go.
