where did my little rooster get his leg feathering from?

My little rooster has leg feathering even though his parents are cleaned leg his father is a Welsummer and his mother is an ex battery hen called an isa brown i think.. I dont have any leg feathered chickens in my flock and i want to use this little guy for breeding when hes the age to breed will his leg feathering be passed on and where did the leg feathering come from is it like a gene?

it is genetic and it will be passed on to offspring, if you are just breeding mixed breed chickens it shouldn't matter. not knowing the genetics of your birds, it could have come from either the welsummer or the battery hen. the battery hen is probably not a pure bred and some welsummers develop a fault of feather stubs on the legs
