Where did the Frizzle gene come from?

Is it something that could pop up in any breed or did it originate in a specific breed, then was bred into other breeds?

Not sure where or when it first originated, but it can be found in any breed--more common in some than others, though.

It seems to have appeared randomly just as the Silkie feathers did. It is just a gene mutation more or less. There have been many people do genetic studies using the Frizzle gene as it is easy to tell the outcome. I know some of the data I have read goes back to studies done in the 1930s
