Where did they come from???

Pics
See, you're becoming a victim already.
More like I'm "preparing" to become a victim. :) I'm going to pretend I didn't hear the word turkey and just focus on expanding what I have to make my current friends more comfortable and safe. :) Having said that...now that I know that turkeys can co-mingle with chickens, I won't have the knee-jerk reaction of "NO!" if the topic comes up again. lol

Ahhh....I'm beginning to understand "Chicken Math". Upon hearing that King was indeed a King and not a Queen...my boyfriend's eyes sort of glossed over and he started talking about babies...bigger coop...huge run...babbling really...(thought I heard the word "turkey" in there somewhere too but I wasn't going to ask for clarification just in case he didn't...and my mere asking would give him the idea!) I just tiptoed away from the babbling human as I began my own babbling..."let me finish my little coop first, jeesh, they haven't even pooped enough in their own place let alone plopped out any eggs...I don't even know how old they are...."
It's only been 4 days...and the chickens are controlling our lives...:th
You're now a 'real' chicken owner. Even before our babies started laying my kids start talking about getting more chicks. Then we noticed our eggs were being fertilized and they started talking about hatching chicks and broodies. Maybe tell him you'll let nature take it's course on the chick front. But before you talk turkey make sure no one will get too attached when it comes time to do the deed.

Do you garden? IF so, you've just acquired a complete set of automatic: tilling, chemical free weed and insect control, fertilizer dispensing units. If you do not yet garden, then, GARDENING is the next item on your must do list.
And gardening FOR your chickens. I planted lettuce this year, next year we'll plant extra broccoli & brussel sprouts & spinach just for them. Our watermelons didn't do well this year, but the chickens loved them.

You need ducks too, and an incubator!
And Guineas... guineas are so cute and noisy.
The incubator is a must:ya, hatching is an addictive "hobby/obsession" and if no one believes you when you tell them you only do it for the economical purpose of replacement hens then try telling them about the educational aspects.:old by this time their eyes will gloss over, they will leave the room and you can continue with the obsessive incubating/hatching/raising/etc, etc.:clap

Ack... no guineas! Evil beasts will try and kill any and all newcomers making hatching a no-go.

Really?!
Mine are okay, I just integrate them by putting the new ones in a cage in the run with the originals for a week or so prior to allowing them to free roam together. The only time I notice aggression is between the males during mating.
My guineas are separate from my layers though.:)

Yeah... near killed a sultan pair I tried to put in. Sold the dumb birds and never looked back.

That's likely what I did wrong. I raised them with the chickens and they got so attached they refused to leave the current flock and free range like I had bought them for. They were noisy, flighty, stupid, and wouldn't even leave the run to eat ticks.

Just my entirely un-biased opinion. :lau
