Where did they come from???

I was actually just reading about this deep litter concept... I'm not quite sure about it...I'm sort of an OCD clean-freak-basket-case when it comes to waste management of pets...and the thought of just tossing poop in the run...and leaving it be sort of gives me the heebie-jeebies...

They will kinda test your limit's for ocd clean first time to poop is on their feet I do use deep litter clean roost daily but I have a 6 x 4 foot table made from pallets as main roost
I have a couple putty knives I use and a snow shovel of child size in each coop

So that's a good sign then? They're "tending" to the fake eggs? So they'll know to put eggs in the box?

Oh...and on another note...King has taken to protecting little Bashful against the other girls. Not sure if that means anything...but Mommy is happy that she has protection. :)
That means King is doing his job and turning into a good rooster.

I'm using a kitty litter scoop daily in the coop and the edge of a small dustpan for the rogue hits on the perches. The coop I'm going to keep with the shavings. They are by far, in my opinion, the best material for poop removal. My first job as a kid was cleaning 20 horse stalls. Shavings are what was used in those and cleanup was a breeze. The run is where I'm considering the deep litter method.

Last night I noticed a different roosting arrangement. Bashful was against the wall with King right next to her. Then this morning, when Beauty went to give Bashful a poke, King went right at Beauty's neck. Not "Lizzy Bordenesque"...but it was definitely "I mean business" sort of peck.

is your run covered ? it will go bad fast if not.. The only place to do deep litter is a covered coop

I'm looking to expand the run...this weekend. Just got a deal for a 10'x10'x6' fence enclosure with a gate for $75. If the guy is available this evening I'm going to fetch it after work. I do plan to put a roof over it. Still deciding if I'm going to go with metal panels or polycarbonate sheets. Mox nix really...both will work...

you would need to close the sides also to keep the litter dry ... I have a geodesic coop 17 square feet around they do dirt baths inside on rainy or cold days it is going on three years old now come spring doing to do a pole building covered in metal very small pitch to the roof they have lived with no floor and will not have one in the new coop
