Where did they come from???

I understand about being addicted. I didn't know I was getting chickens until I was gifted with them on mothers day. Was also given a small prefab coop. I started reading and determined my exceptional girls needed a larger, more secure home. It is now almost Thanksgiving and am almost done working on their permanent home for this year. Have already started on the work list for next year, along with a chick wish list as well!!!
Chickens are addictive little buggers... I find myself spending the majority of my day trying to learn about them, improve their digs...worrying about The Crud ( I don't like the name coccidiosis, so I renamed it The Crud ) Found droplets of blood yesterday and had a panic attack. Bought Corid for now...and probiotics for after...and treats to celebrate being Crud free! Feathers are flying all over the place but that's a normal molting thing I've read...so I'm not breathing into a paper bag just yet with that...yet....

Many here are soo anti Prefab coops. I live in the REAL WORLD. I have suggested a number of times to newbies to get one. My logic is to try it out and see if chickens are right for you. :thumbsup
$200 greenbacks is not bankruptcy bound. (I know some are more cash). I also know that ALL over rate chicken capacity. The reality in most cases with newbies is their chicken numbers will be in the 2 to 4 range. Once they get the feeling of chickens, they make their mind on their coming plans. :)
When you decide to expand/enlarge/build new-larger, you can incorporate that small prefab coop in many ways.
Post some pix of your setup.. and do disclose those secret chick numbers as well.:highfive:

Buying a prefab coop is waaaayyyy cheaper than building your own! Lol. I was fortunate to have all my building supplies available through scrap and repurposing stuff...but since now I'm on a first name basis with the local lumber yard with my run expansion...I did some quick calculations in my noggin in regards to what my coop would have run had I used new materials. No comparison...prefab is waaaayyyy cheaper. Not to mention, your time involved. Prefab abode with a little tweaking is the route to go...in my opinion.

I also believe that the Mafia has a monopoly on hardware cloth...it's my only conclusion to explain why that crap is so dang expensive!

One advantage to prefab is the coops work while the chicks are little and WE are figuring things out. Not so small stuff like, how will we really share our properties with the winged ones? What do they need? How can we provide it? If everything has to be perfect ahead of time, think of the adventures we'd miss <HAH>

This is the most heart earming, fun, well written and entertaining story I have read!! Thank you for sharing your talent with us. It was meant to be! My babies are 9 month old geese. They are spoiled rotten. Who knew a poultry and waterfowl birds could be so addicting. I learn so much from them. I look forwrd to more stories. I couldnt stop reading this one. :frow:love

Update: My feathered family love the run. Sitting inside with enjoying a coffee while they scratch around.

May not be the fanciest digs, but it beats living next to an interstate being fed Cheerios!
