Well a very large percentage (dare I say 99.9%) never need trimmed. They normally take care of themselves.
"as I can't see me clipping beaks!"
You may not have to trim beaks but you will find yourself doing many things you never expected.
I have a gal who had a dingle berry hanging off her butt. Yesterday, I noticed she now has two. Time for me to get out there with some scissors, and take care of some basic hygiene details. I can hear her now. "Do these tur.. make my butt look big???"
Heh,i never thought I'd have olive oil and rubber gloves in my emergency supplies....![]()
I was thinking of your "monsters" today when I was collecting "stuff" to put in the run. I just drive my mower around with a wagon and collect leaves, dirt, lots of hickory nut shells, twigs. I threw it in the run along with a bag of mulch that had torn open. They had a field day and went to town digging through it.
Their first dirt bath was in an old rotting stump behind the house and the soil was mostly like peat/dirt and some ash from somebody lighting the stump on fire. The dirt bath I put in the coop is basically the same, but has some sand, grit, hickory shells and twigs too. I just give it a good stir once in a while. They love it, but still don't pass up the chance to make their own out in the yard.
While scooping poop half of my girls came inside and sang their song. One of them was really into it, but never went near the nest. I began mimicing them and then the rooster began crowing. It was quite a commotion. lol
I can't wait until they let me touch them! They won't all be like that. I think they might be in their skittish stage. When they get to point of lay and start squatting for you they will act differently. More bold and demanding. Also, when they squat they can't run away and you can just pick them right up, or pretend you are a roo and scratch their back - then watch them walk away poofing the feathers in satisfaction, soooo funny!![]()
