Will ducks lay in in a chicken nesting box if it is about 9in off the ground but also has a ladder going up to it ? will a duck not lay in the nesting box if a chicken lays in it or the other way around ?

haha im sorry you have to go digging through the mud to get eggs

My 3 year old pekin creates nests all over the yard. My young Runners were laying anyhere on the ground in their night pens until I put in some small trays filled with pine shavings. Now they always lay in the boxes provided. I have found 2-3 eggs in the boxes in the morning- so I know they are sharing them. I have only found an occasional one outside inthe yard as they dont have access to the laying boxes once they are let out for the day. Maybe if you changed the ladder to some kind of ramp the ducks could easily walk up you may have more luck with them using the boxes. You could also just try having a box for them at ground level.

Where ever they want! lol. mine usually lay in the nest boxes but i occasionally find one in the middle of he coop floor. 1 of my young girls climbs on top of the broody chickens to lay her eggs..she's such a dork.

Seriously. If let them out too early in the morning, they will lay wherever will take me the longest to find.
