where do I find out about laws?

I am new here and I am trying to learn everything before I go any further.. I have no idea where to even go to check to see if it is ok for me to have a few chickens in my backyard.. Could someone point me in the right direction. I live in Mebane NC. I am outside the city limits.. Is there a website where I can check this out? Really need help getting started!

Start with your county zoning office. You should be able to find livestock regulations there.

Angie, since you are outside city limits the probably don't have any county regulations for backyard chickens. That's the way it is here in Vance County.

When you decide on what breed of chicks you want let me know - getting ready to hatch buff orpingtons, delewares and rhode island reds next week.
