Where do I take my ducks to get their wings clipped??

I have two ducks over 2months old and they are starting to flap their wings to fly. Where or who should I take to clip their wings. Should I do both or one wing?

Their really is no need to trim the wings......What breeds do you have?

The only reason I clip wings is I have Muscovy and they do fly very well and we live in the woods with a mountain river down below and alot of people who have had Muscovy have lost them to flying..

Another reason to clip is if you live close to others who may have dogs. You don't want your ducks flying around and landing in someones back yard with a dog waiting.

Most breeds of domestics don't fly or not very high to where you'd lose them it really depends on breed and your circumstances as to clip or not.

I don't think there is really a place to go to get your birds' wings clipped. Most people just take a pair of scissors and do it themselves. It's pretty easy to do. You just need to trim up the primary flight feathers. But on young birds, you have to do it every month or so till they are done growing in feathers. Once they are over 6 months old, you only have to trim them once a year, after they have their annual molt.

This is my first time having ducks as well and if I have learned anything it's that you cannot be afraid to handle them! They are not as fragile as they may seem to some. Just look up some pictures and diagrams of the feathers you have to clip and start with your easiest to handle duck and some treats. You only have to do one wing so it shouldn't take too long. Worst case you go back and try again if they can still fly. You've got this! And hey, you are in NC too! That's awesome!
