Where do you get your cuckoo marans?

join a marans club, see if there is someone local to you. I just got a dozen feather legged cuckoo eggs for $45 including shipping. If you find someone local you may be able get some chicks.

Good idea KLF, I know my wife wants Marans for the dark eggs. She will be disappointed if by chance the hatchery birds don't lay dark eggs.

I think I have 1 girl and 4 boys tho......

Roosterboy I ordered day old chicks from one of our local feed stores who got them from a hatchery straight run at $ 3.50 a piece I ordered 15 and got 16. They arrived July 7th.

Here is a couple of photos I took today, now I got 5 Roos and 11 pullets. They are about 16 weeks old now. 1 Roo and 2 pullets look to be Barrock cross with Cuckoo Marans because they have yellow legs and beaks.

Schultzie is this Roo on the right the one on the left will go.

LeRoy is this one with the yellow legs, but he is good looking. This is one of our pretty Cuckoo Marans Pullets next to him. She has the classic gray/white legs and beak.

We plan to put 2 roos in the freezer, but will keep 3. Our grandson Noah will show Schultzie next year in 4-H. We are waiting for our first eggs. Will post them for sure. So as you can see you can get some handsome birds through a hatchery.
Good Luck with your decission. There is a thread where we decuss Marans of all sorts check it out

There are a few people on this board with cuckoos.I am one of them, you can check out my page. Where are you located? I have eggs on day 7 in the bater, but i don't ship chicks. I am in W. Tn. There are a few other boards that you can check out.

Hey karenleaf-yellow eggs on a cuckoo either means it is not pure or it is a breed fault. I would not use him for breeding at all. I had a hen that threw chicks with yellow legs and I had to remove her from my breeding flock. Every so often I still get a chick or two. It's hard with hens because the leg color seems to fade the older they get or when they are laying eggs.

ooh now I don't know about the ones I got yesterday mine are more of a chocolate brown color but the legs are not yellow
when the sun comes up I'll go take a picture
Its ok though I just wanted them for layers and I can still eat the eggs if they are light brown. Its all good

I did realize that LeRoy is a throw back of some cross breeding, I don't plan on using him for breeding. I just think he is a good looking boy.
If I use any it would be this Handsome Rooster Schultzie the one in the front.

I just was giving example as to what you may end up with from a hatchery order. Some pure breed and some not.

Roosterboy Tina does have some wonderful birds and she knows much more about the Marans than I. I just started and have been reading these threads to learn more. I know she can stear you in the direction to getting some wonderful Cuckoo Marans.

Hope you all have a great day.

I know what you mean Karen. I have had to "cull" hens from my breeding flock, but I really just move them to the eating egg flock. They are still good hens.
Roosterboy-My chicks should begin hatching around 11/17. If you think you will be coming my way sometime and are interested,I'll try to remember to notify you about how the hatch goes.If you want to hatch eggs,I will post a message in BST around Feb,to get ready for shipping dates,or you can contact me privately and secure a ship date.
