To answer both questions: Yes Broiler Crumbles. The company is Poulin Grain Company. I believe that it is a regional company to the New England area... Not certain though.

Mine stay on Chick Starter till 3 week when they are switched to Broiler. They are in a strict 12 hours on, 12 hours off schedule to prevent heart attacks. They grow at a ludicrous rate and must be watched fir signs of leg issues.

I believe Blue Seal carries something similar as well.

If you have a grain mill near by they may be the cheapest way to go. I have two here within an hours drive and the one offers 18% protein feed with no bulk discount and the other one has discounts for a big custom order, but I am waiting a call back to see exactly what it will be. Last Spring it was around $10 a bag if I got 500 lbs.

You might want to sit down with a pencil and paper and write down the location, per chick cost and shipping cost of a few different hatcheries. I like Schletch, but they're close for me (Iowa to MI), and inexpensive - cheaper for me to get them there than to get them from the feed store.

If you're getting Cornish X, I've yet to see a distinct difference between the different companies in the bird results. They're pretty uniform. If you're going to get something like a Freedom Ranger, you're more limited - those aren't available everywhere, and the similar birds might not be exactly similar.

I agree- closest is best, but I know it's hard to find the closest hatchery. I get mine from Hoover's in Iowa, but I don't know if I'm going back- these last two batches have has serious leg issues (among other things that may be more my fault).

And for broiler feed, I get mine from a local feed store that carries a store mix. Nutrena makes a broiler feed, but it's so much more expensive ($15 for 40 lbs vs $12 for 50 lbs). Look for a local place, but I think broiler feed makes a pretty big difference- higher protein= more muscle/less fat AND fewer heart attacks.

wait wait... 12 on 12 off.. ??? I don't know about this.. were just learning.. right now I have food in front of them 24hrs a day and water of course.. they have natural light all day ( open air run) and then at night I have a light mostly for heat and were supposed to have temps drop so its needed.. so do I take away their feed at night? now or wait till they're a bit older then take it away?
Please help a newbie out.. I want them to get heavy but not at the cost of death by heart attacks..

I have a TSC here will they have the broiler feed? and about the broiler feed. I got 3 EE roosters not by choice.. ( i know better now) and they are skinny as rails they weigh like in oz's . where my hens are a few lbs each.. i am trying everything to get weight on them would this feed help to put weight on skinny chickens???

thanks for your help
