I have a sick chicken and maybe two. Bright green poop. One is acting normal the other is not. I was going to get some tylan powder and treat the whole flock, but now everything is prescription only!! Where am I to get antibiotics now without having to go to a avian vet and hour away and pay 500$ WTH? Do they know how many animals will die now?! Where can I get something, anything to treat my birds?! Everything I am finding on line is prescription only. If anyone has a link to something that is not prescription only, please please can you send me the link?

Thanks so much!

people where over using them for anything without confirming an infection so resistance is becoming an issue.
This. I understand what it's like to be in a situation when you're not able to get anything to help your chickens without a vet and it feels hopeless, but I understand why antibiotics are (and should be) prescription only. People tend to use antibiotics "just in case" without confirming that it's the correct medicine for what their birds have. Or they don't read the instructions, don't use it in the right amounts or don't complete the course, resulting in resistance to antibiotics becoming a problem. If people keep doing this, eventually antibiotics won't be effective anymore. Antibiotics don't cure everything and they shouldn't be used unless you're sure what your birds have and what to treat it with.

I see that you are from Latvia. How much would it cost you altogether to get amoxicillin tablets from a veterinarian for your chickens?

It's hard to say because I've never had the need for amoxicillin, nor have I been to a veterinarian that specializes in birds, but from the research I did, I concluded it would likely be at least 50-100€ if not more.
To clarify, I do not think it's fair that it costs so much to get antibiotics for chickens or that you're required to make the drive to a vet if you need them. It's costly and a lot of steps, I get that, and as a chicken owner, I'm not a fan. What I meant to say is that I can see why there needs to be some kind of control over who can get their hands on antibiotics to prevent misuse. I may have worded it badly (English is my second language), so I do apologize for that. I didn't mean to offend anyone.

It's new legislation from early this year or last year, people where over using them for anything without confirming an infection so resistance is becoming an issue.
What symptoms are you seeing? Age diet?
Well, it sucks. This particular chicken's history is very complicated. She's old and I honestly thought she'd be dead by now. Latest symptoms, bright green poop, more liquid than formed. Lethargic barely eating and drinking and her comb is purple towards the back, like it did the last time. Which worming seemed to help the last time. But she didn't have the bright green poop. Then this morning there was more bright green poop, from someone else. I couldn't tell whose it was, cuz they had moved before I saw it. So I am thinking e coli. Thoughts?

Well, I am doing that. And I don't have an avian vet that isn't hour away and doesn't cost an arm.
